The Police Department‘s Mission is to protect the lives and property of Thousand Oaks residents and address public concerns in ways that foster safe, crime-free neighborhoods. Since the City’s incorporation in 1964, Thousand Oaks has partnered with the Ventura County Sheriff's Office to provide law enforcement services. As Thousand Oaks has grown into a vibrant, well-planned community, the Police Department remains committed to strengthening its trusted relationship with residents, schools, and businesses.

With 93 sworn officers and 108 total employees, the Department employs proactive strategies and prevention programs to ensure public safety and uphold the high quality of life the community expects. In addition to core patrol, traffic, and investigative services, the Department offers specialized units that address major crimes, property crimes, gang activity, and community concerns. Programs such as the Community Resources Unit, School Resource Officers, and the Disaster Assistance Response Team reflect the Department’s focus on education, prevention, and responsiveness. These efforts contribute to Thousand Oaks’ continued recognition as one of the safest cities in the nation with a population over 100,000.
